280 kilometers made. Flying 100-120 km/h. It’s finally a nice covering: the area reminds salt lakes. No bushes, no greenery, just the emptiness around.
However, when we reach Saishand we are ready to kiss the asphalt, so tired of the offroads we are. We find a hotel with no locks in the doors, just holes instead of them. Well, shouldn’t one trust the people, eh? We sit down on the hotel stairs, open a beer and hit our hands together: yay, The Gobi is crossed and we are so happy. In a couple of hours also our crew is here: the Jeep has the tyre burst and the reserve wheel doesn’t look much better either. I have no slightest idea how do they plan to get to Ulaanbaatar with all this. We start worrying, too, thinking about the Chinese border we have to cross tomorrow. Yesterday, we have called to the office that rented us a Jeep in Mongolia and the clerks have confirmed that it’s impossible to enter China on a vehicle. Of course, we knew that also before we began our expedition, however, we decided to rely on luck and ATA carnet that should be useful. At least, in theory we think we shouldn’t get any problems with it.
