190 kilometers made. To our surprise we have caught Hindu New Year’s Day celebration called Galungan. This is the day to give flowers, fruits and other gifts to the Gods.
All the sacrifices are suspended high on bamboo rods so the Gods can see them. It’s really a holiday mood all around, and what makes us most happy is that it’s not a tourism thing, a kind of entertainment, but a genuine tradition which is very important to locals. In the middle of the island we stop to visit one of the big temples located there, however we get rejected since we don’t wear appropriate clothing like sarong and Hindu head covering. After few hours spend in mountains we are already in the harbor and in five more hours we are at Lombok Island. This is another Muslim territory, and Hindu celebrations are much quieter. The island itself is two times smaller than Bali and crossable in an hour North-South direction. Since we suppose to get to the next place, Sumbawa Island tomorrow only, today we decide to visit a local surfer’s paradise Kuta.
