140 kilometers made. Since 1926 Cameron Highlands are famous for its tea plantations. Local climate, mild and rainy, is also very appropriate for this aim.
Cheap labor force was introduced here from India by Englanders, and heirs of the former plantation workers are still dwelling here in numerous villages placed among plantations. The tea is harvested all year long non-stop, and mostly it’s a female job. Later, tea leaves get dried and pressed at the factories. One kilo of fresh tea leaves gives approximately 200 grams of the black tea. The most popular is BOH tea, „Best of Highlands”.
We part from our friends to meet them again tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur. We managed to call three Latvian pilots who live and study in a nearby town of Ipoh and we plan to visit them today. Gatis, Kaspars and Edgars greet us in their small rooms where we are second visitors from Latvia within last year and half. The guys learn to pilot the helicopters here to work for UNO later. Gatis has already worked in Banda Acheha that two years ago suffered from the tsunami wave the most. We chat till the late evening, so much we have to discuss.
