280 kilometers made. From Paul Pot’s home town we are heading off to the jungle North direction in hope of reaching an abandoned temple named Sambor Prey.
At least, the map says there is one. It’s been raining all night long, hence dirt road we’re driving more looks like a red clay bath. There is even a moment when we are almost ready to turn back, yet decide to fight until the end. The temple we succeed to find was built about 2, 000 years ago. Of course, it’s not as impressive as its Angkor brother, but at least there are no tourist crowds in the jungle. After Kampong Thom the road six Siem Riep direction is a lot more quiet and we make 180 kilometers in two hours. The town has changed a lot during last four years: now it’s not a provincial quiet place anymore but a tourist chopper. There is nothing but the hotels around and the traffic is totally crazy. It’s all due to one of the miracles of the world: the Angkor temple complex. Of course, everyone craves to see it. We’ve found one ultimately cozy guesthouse named „Elephant Secret”, a hundred years old wooden building lost in a big tropical garden. Awesome.
